Copyright and Fair Use of iREAD Materials

iREAD provides artwork and resources to support and promote reading programs at libraries. By purchasing the iREAD Resource Guide, your library is granted specific rights to use the included copyrighted materials under the terms outlined below.

Permitted Uses by Libraries

Libraries and Friends of the Library-type groups may:

  • Use iREAD artwork to promote reading programs in print, online, and through social media.

  • Incorporate the artwork into promotional items such as bookmarks, book bags, shirts, posters, and more.

  • Sell promotional items featuring iREAD artwork to raise funds for the library or its programs. If selling outside of the library (in an online print-on-demand store for example) please clearly state what the funds raised will be used towards.

  • Reuse artwork and slogans for other library initiatives, including programs outside the original reading initiative (such as winter or spring reading programs).

  • Share materials internally within your library system.

There is no expiration date on the artwork’s use for your library’s promotional or fundraising purposes.

Prohibited Uses by Vendors and Others

  • Vendors may only use iREAD artwork to fulfill the specific product order placed by your library.

  • Vendors may not:

    • Use the artwork or slogans to create items for other clients or libraries.

    • Resell or repurpose the artwork for their own product lines.

    • Distribute iREAD art in any format outside of what your library has directly commissioned.

If a vendor seeks to use the artwork beyond your specific order, they must be informed that such use violates the licensing terms.

Important Notes

  • Libraries are encouraged to credit iREAD when using artwork publicly.

  • The art and slogans are protected by copyright and must be used responsibly, according to the permissions granted with the purchase of the Resource Guide.

  • iREAD reserves the right to change or update Copyright and Fair Use of iREAD Materials on an annual basis. Please always check the website for the most up-to-date policy.

Artificial Intelligence

  • Any use of the iREAD Resource Guide (art or text) to “train” generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to generate text or art is expressly prohibited. iREAD reserves all rights to license uses of this work for generative AI training and development of machine-learning language models.
